Pete is a handsome and rich university student that is incredibly timid. His shyness is caused by the fact that he tries to hide that he is secretly gay. By chance, Pete gets hit by a kind hearted boy on a bike. The boy, named Ae apologises and helps him up. Whenever Pete trusts someone they use him for his wealth. While he was getting abused for money, Ae saves him. Over time, Ae protects Pete from the world; he takes care of him. But somewhere between the intense closeness and soft touches, Ae begins to feel more than how a friend would. Yet, Pete doesn’t want Ae to know the pain of being ridiculed for dating a man. Thus he ignores his feelings for Ae. But Pete falls deeper and deeper in love with the kind hearted boy on the bike who once hit him, by chance
Have you ever asked yourself, “if I wanted to introduced someone into the world of Boys Love drama series, what would be the first recommendation I would make?” This is one of the best BL series that was aired last 2018. And I know most of us rewatched this series multiple times. The story of this series is very light and it offers a lot of lessons in like when it comes to personal life, friendship, relationship and family.
When it comes to the roles and casts. The producers of this series really choose the perfect actors to portrait the characters. All of them really suits the characters in the series.
PETE AND AE
Saint as Pete was absolutely adorable, and he somehow managed to exude both shy innocence and sexy naughtiness. Perth as Ae was caring and doting, and his loyalty to and protectiveness of Pete was charming. Storywise, I loved how straightforward Ae about his feelings. If there was some sort of misunderstanding they cleared it up as soon as possible. That’s what we see with Ae and Pete. We see them growing as a couple but also as two individual people. We see them exploring their sexuality, talking about first time, searching about sex between two males, about condoms, about having desire and pleasure. The chemistry between them is really undeniable. They are indeed a match made in heaven.
There is one thing that works very well in their relationship and a very good point and that is their communication. They communicate, they always talk to each other if there is one problem. When Ae is jealous, he talks about it. When Pete feels frustrated, he talks about it. They express their love, and they are reslly open to each other.
A MOTHER’S LOVE
One of the important thing about the story of this series is the mother’s love. Pete’s coming out to his mother that he’s gay and her reaction to it really made me tear up. She made clear that regardless of whatever, he is her son and that would never change. Unconditional love of a mother really shows in this series.
TIN AND CAN
Can was so cute, young, naive, and pretty much drama-free until resident tsundere Tin decides to make Can the target of his affections. Once it became apparent that they would become a pair, I waited impatiently for the upcoming episode to see how much further along they would get. I just loved the side of Tin that Can brought out, and seeing Can get so flustered with Tin as he tried to work out his emotions towards the other boy was so charming and well-done. A cat and dog relationship of this couple balanced the storyline. Compared to Pete and Ae which is almost perfect relationship, these two boys really hate each other and it all started in a KISS. When Tin kissed Tan to make him silent. Tin and Can start out as the couple who go from hate to love. Tin is that cold-hearted Darcy character who really is just broken inside from a past betrayal. Can provides exactly the person he needs–someone who is loyal to a fault and can’t be bought. Tin is initially frustrated and suspicious of Pete’s “poor” friends, but Can changes his mind, and his pursuit of Can is fun to watch. I also feel as though he falls for Can’s family as much as he falls for Can. And who can blame him? They are as welcoming and warm as his family is judgmental and cold.
On the other hand, Tum and Tar was enough as fillers but I won’t be able to give a deep review since there wasn’t enough material for me to create one. It was the same as Tin and Can, which were both fast paced. I could say though that the story deserves to be explored more. The theme provided an interesting issue to focus on (sexual assault) and I would like to see more of Tar’s story (trauma); moreover, I didn’t like how Tum forced himself to Tar. In accordance with this, Techno and Kengkla has the most bothering story in LBC. There was rape, deception and manipulation in it. I hate how the story of Techno and Kengkla ended in the season. It was disturbing because I couldn’t see even a slight hesitation in Kengkla’s face. I was really sad because I would’ve liked if they portrayed Kengkla’s “stubborn” attitude, intelligence and determination in a different way or they could’ve toned it down. The limit I could accept was the motorcyle part. Other than that, I really couldn’t tolerate the other planned events. I really loved the main idea on how Techno, a responsible naive and likeable guy, thought that Kengkla was innocent but really has a dark side. I just really wished they didn’t include rape and extreme manipulation.
Its original OST and those which subsequently released are awesome, fitting perfectly for the mood and theme of the story. The use of other soundtrack from other series though is distracting, which voids Love By Chance as that new BL series apart from other series
Overall I liked it! This was my invitation to the BL World and I am so grateful. I highly recommend this series especially to those beginners and would just like to have a light and soft story line.
